beautiful Christmas bokeh!

There is something about the twinkling Christmas lights that lend themselves so wonderfully to bokeh. (Bokeh is the blurry part of a photo.)

I was very excited so see that the first photo was one of the featured photos on Pioneer Woman in the bokeh assignment group.

I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I enjoyed taking them!

When I saw the theme for this week’s challenge at  i ♥ faces I knew I had the perfect photos.

My goofy brother Ryan offers lots of hilarious photo opportunities. He’s quite the card!

I ♥ heart faces: Week 50 - “My Story In Photos: Holiday Traditions”

Christmas time is here again. I decided to participate in the i ♥ faces challenge this week by sharing some photos of Christmas traditions at our house. To me Christmas is one of the redeeming factors of winter. It’s so wonderful to be able to gather with family and friends and celebrate the the birth of Jesus. I must admit, the lights, carols, and cookies aren’t too bad either! Enjoy!

Tradition #1 Making Craisin & Pistachio Clusters

If you have never had these you are really missing out!IMG_1925                                                 First step, gather all your ingredients. There are only three! Two to three cups craisins,

pistachios, (about 2 lbs. or two bags), and about one and a quarter lbs. almond bark .

IMG_1923                                                                        If you have whole pistachios you will have to shell them…

IMG_1922                                                                                                                …. so they look like this.

IMG_1932                                                           This is a time consuming process so it helps if you have a willing helper or two.

It’s even better if you have the Chronicles of Narnia to listen to. ( I love Radio Theatre.)

IMG_1939                                                      Add about 2-3 cups of craisins to the shelled pistachios. You can add more or less if you want.

IMG_1944                                                       Stir the craisins and pistachios together. It should look like this. You probably want to

have slightly more pistachios then craisins in the mixture.

IMG_1947                                                       Next, cut up the almond bark into cubes so it can melt more easily. ( I love this stuff!)

IMG_1954                                                     Get ready by laying freezer paper over two baking sheets (or other flat surface).

IMG_1934                                                         The bark is microwaveable, but you can also use the stove-top or oven to melt it.

IMG_1958                                                     I used the microwave this time. Put the bark in a microwave safe bowl and set it on high

                                                    for 1 minute.

IMG_1959                                                         Then take it out and give it a good stir. Put in in for another 30 seconds or so until melted,

                                                          stirring it every 15 seconds.

IMG_1962                                                                                                    It should be nice and smooth with no lumps.

IMG_1963                                                                                          Pour in the craisin and pistachio mixture.

IMG_1965                                                                                                                    Mix it in really well.

IMG_1970                                                        When your mixture looks like this you can stop mixing. You’ll have to work fairly fast

as the bark will start to harden. If it gets to hard to work with just pop it in the

                                                         microwave for a few seconds.

IMG_1971                                                        Spoon a heaping tablespoon onto the paper to create one cluster. You might want to use two

spoons, but I found it to be pretty impossible while holding the camera!

IMG_1980                                                      Here’s your finished product. They’ll peel off the paper easily once they’re dry. You’ll get

about two baking sheets full of clusters. Yummy!

Tradition # Reading Luke Chapter 2

Luke 2                             We have always had a tradition of reading the second chapter of Luke by the Christmas tree on Christmas morning

before we exchange gifts. (This is after morning chores and a big breakfast of course!)

i ♥ faces: constructive feedback

Here’s my entry for Constructive Feedback  (it’s the edited version). My editing program is Photoshop Elements 7.

It’s a picture I took of my brother, Seth, this past summer.Seth                                                                                                                              Photo Info:

                                                                                                                       Shutter speed: 1/100

                                                                                                                                Aperture:  f/7.10

                                                                                                                                          ISO: 400

                                                                                                                        Focal Length: 55 mm

                                                                                                                       My problems with this photo:

How do I make the photo “pop” more, does the photo need to be brighter?

I wish I could make his skin was more creamy, it seems like the skin color is too warm.

Here’s the original photo SOOC. Seth original

Thanks so much for your feedback!

About Me

My photo
I love God, my family, spending time with my friends, reading a good book, riding my horses, showing my cows, walking in the grass with my bare feet, watching a sunset or sunrise, listening to birds chirp and the wind blow, a good nap, taking pictures, corn on the cob, a cold glass of milk, quiet time, laughing, singing really loud just to annoy my brothers, playing with photoshop, the fair, ripe tomatoes with lots of salt and pepper, playing with my kitten, and just enjoying life.
